Over at the Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro, I didn’t realize that they are really going all out – more than I thought – for the Author Event I’ll be having there July 18 – 7 p.m.
197 NC Hwy 87 N Pittsboro, NC 27312
My sister, who lives in Pittsboro, phoned me yesterday. She’d seen the announcement in the library, where it’s clear that there’s a cake contest. Local people – if they wish – can compete in a contest to make the best cake: the best Gonzo cake. In honor of Hunter’s birthday, which was July 18, 1937.
I think he’d like the idea. Since they recommend – but do not require – 60s dress (which is as varied as they come), I wonder just what will happen. Something fun, for sure. And Keep This Quiet! My Relationship with Hunter S. Thompson, Milton Klonsky, and Jan Mensaert will be on display, with copies available for sale and autograph if anyone wishes. But it’s not necessary to do anything but come and celebrate. Bring your questions, if any. I’ll be glad to address them. Or bring your own comments and opinions.
Hope the weather is beautiful and the atmosphere festive. And that a crowd shows up.
This library is a new, beautiful, large building, beside the Community College. Right off the new round-about at the edge of town. These Adult Author Events are a new feature. And the staff is really trying to energize them.
